In reality, it was over after the 2008 election of Barack Obama to the White House, but anti-Muslim, anti-Latino, anti-African-American, anti-women conservative leaders apparently needed another futile presidential run to grasp that the United States is complex in diversity and concerns, not a simpleton one-note, one-color country.
One by sneering one, the loudest white, male, pro-white, pro-male conservative voices have been muzzled in the four weeks since President Obama won reelection by a wider margin than ever garnered by either George W. Bush or Bill Clinton:
- Jim DeMint, two-term senator from South Carolina and top Tea Party dog in the U.S. Senate, resigned from Congress today, obviously realizing the futility of his obstructionist, pot-stirring bent in Obama's progressive Washington.
- Karl Rove, benched by Fox News after his embarrassing election night refusal to accept reality. Rove, of course, squandered nearly $1 billion leading the ultra-conservative SuperPac charge against Obama.
- Grover Norquist, whining to any and all broadcasters that "No one is caving," when Republicans across the country find ways to worm-out of lobbyist Norquist's anti-patriotic Taxpayer Protection Pledge. (Even red-state Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss demurred, "I care about my country more than I do about a 20-year-old pledge.")
- Rick Santorum, former senator and presidential wannabe who holds freakishly extreme feelings on the gay community, was last seen cheerleading the U.S. Senate on to defeating passage of a treaty to treat the disabled with respect and common courtesy. Santorum's newest gig is as weekly columnist for a site prominent for Obama citizenship conspiracy theories.
Yes, the era of national political influence for the white, pro-white, anti-immigrant, anti-woman conservative extremist male clearly is over. Thank God!
Their demise was necessary to repair and preserve American democracy as envisioned by our country's founders as a country in which "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
